Margrét Guðnadóttir is a reed designer living in Reykjavik. She lived in the United States in the years 1980 - 1986. There she studied art at the central Connecticut State University as well as weaving and basketry at Weslayan potters, Connecticut. She also attended a number of courses given by various basketry artist throughout the U.S.A.

In the past few years she has attended courses at the Reykjavik school of Visual arts, a summercourse at Kunst Höjskole Ærö in Denmark and a summercourse at the Haystack mountain school of crafts in Maine. From autumn 1986 she has taught basketry and reed weaving at her own workshop in Reykjavik. Margrét has participated in several exhibitions with other artists. She held her first private exhibition at gallery Stöðlakot in January 1999. It was called "Lights". Margret is one of the founding members of Kirsuberjatréð.

Recent exhibitions and works:
  • In March 2005 Margret, along with her fellow artists at Kirsuberjatréd, were invited to exhibit their work as part of a Festival celebrating Iceland, hosted by restaurant Sturehof in Stockholm, Sweden.
     
  • In August 2005 Margret attended a 2 week workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Maine U.S.A. with renowned studio artist Lissa Hunter.
     
  • In July and August 2005 Margret exhibited her work at Handverk og Honnun (craft and design) as part of the exhibition "Sögur af Landi" in Reykjavík.
     
  • In October 2005 Margret was chosen to participate in the Chelsea Crafts Fair in London.

  • In November 2005 Margret will be exhibiting her work at the Iceland Design Days in Reykjavik. (Hönnunardagar 2005)

  • From Febuary 25th till March 21st 2006 Margret's music boxes will be presented at the exhibition "Red Hot" at the Roger Billcliffe Gallery in Glasgow.
